New World: Aeternum – Mount Unlock and Leveling Guide

In New World, the expansive MMORPG developed by Amazon Game Studios, players are tasked with surviving and thriving on the mystical island of Aeternum. As you explore its vast lands, engage in battles, and complete quests, it’s clear that one of the most exciting additions to the game is the introduction of mounts. These creatures not only serve as a faster mode of transportation across Aeternum’s varied biomes but also provide a significant boost to gameplay. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about unlocking and leveling mounts in New World.

1. Introduction to Mounts in New World

Before diving into the specifics of unlocking and leveling your mount, it’s important to understand what mounts offer in New World Gold. Players can utilize mounts to travel across the island more efficiently. With Aeternum being a massive world with diverse landscapes, getting from point A to point B can often take time. This is where mounts become invaluable, reducing travel time significantly.

Additionally, mounts come in different types and speeds, allowing players to choose the one that suits their style. They also provide a range of boosts and buffs that can be useful in combat, allowing you to outpace enemies or quickly retreat when necessary.

2. Unlocking Your First Mount

2.1 Mount Unlock Quest

Unlocking mounts in New World isn’t as simple as paying a fee or buying a mount outright. Instead, you need to progress through a series of quests and activities to unlock this feature. To begin the process, you’ll need to reach Level 60. At this point, you will have completed much of the early and mid-game content and will be in a position to explore the endgame systems of the game.

Once you’ve reached Level 60, you can begin the Mount Unlock Questline, which typically starts in the main settlement of the area where you’ve been spending most of your time. Look for an NPC who will offer you a quest to begin your mount journey. This quest will guide you through specific locations where you can find rare items and resources necessary to unlock mounts.

2.2 Completing the Mount Unlocking Quest

The quest itself involves a few key steps, including the collection of specific resources found throughout Aeternum. These resources might include:

Animal Trophies: These are gathered from creatures you hunt across different biomes.

Special Herbs: Certain herbs are required to craft potions and elixirs that are key to mount summoning.

Rare Gems: These gemstones are scattered throughout the world, often in harder-to-reach areas, and can be found through treasure hunts, dungeon runs, or defeating specific bosses.

Once you’ve gathered these resources and completed a series of sub-quests, you will be led to a mount-specific crafting station where you can craft the necessary items to summon your first mount.

2.3 The Mount Summoning Ceremony

After gathering all the necessary resources, you’ll attend a special mount summoning ceremony. This takes place in a ceremonial area where you’ll have to perform a series of tasks, often involving combat or solving environmental puzzles. Once you complete the ceremony, you’ll officially unlock the ability to summon a mount.

It’s worth noting that mounts are not immediately available for use in all areas. Some regions may require specific levels of reputation with factions or require you to complete additional quests to unlock access.

3. Leveling Your Mount

Once you’ve unlocked your mount, the next step is leveling it up. While mounts are primarily a form of transportation, their effectiveness increases with each level, offering faster speeds, better stamina regeneration, and additional abilities that can be critical during PvP or PvE combat.

3.1 Mount Experience and Growth

Mounts in New World gain experience through various activities, such as:

Exploration: Simply riding your mount across Aeternum will give it experience points. The more you travel and explore new regions, the faster your mount will level up.

Combat: If you engage in combat while riding your mount, you’ll earn experience for both your character and the mount. Defeating enemies or completing objectives while mounted provides boosts to the mount’s leveling.

Crafting and Trading: Some activities like crafting certain goods related to mounts or trading with NPCs can also provide experience for your mount.

3.2 Mount Experience Gaining Activities

Here are some activities that provide significant experience to your mount:

Quest Completion: Many quests, especially those related to faction missions or expeditions, can provide experience for both your character and mount.

PvP and PvE Events: Participating in faction wars, territory control events, or other PvP activities will reward your mount with experience. Likewise, joining in PvE events, such as boss fights, can offer valuable experience for your mount as well.

Racing Events: Some regions may feature racing challenges that give you the chance to race other players or NPCs on your mount. Winning these challenges will result in significant experience boosts for your mount.

3.3 Mount Leveling Perks

As your mount gains levels, it will unlock various perks that improve its effectiveness. These perks can include:

Speed Boosts: At higher levels, your mount will increase its travel speed, allowing you to traverse Aeternum even faster.

Stamina Management: Lower-level mounts may have limited stamina, making them slower over time. As your mount levels up, its stamina regeneration improves, allowing for longer travel distances without needing to rest.

Combat Abilities: Some mounts will unlock specific combat-related abilities. These can be used to assist in both PvP and PvE scenarios, whether that be faster retreating, dealing damage to enemies, or boosting your own combat effectiveness.

Each mount will have a unique set of traits, so selecting the right mount based on your playstyle is important for maximizing your experience.

4. Types of Mounts in New World

There are several different types of mounts to choose from in New World, each with its own unique benefits. Some mounts are faster but have less combat utility, while others are tankier and better suited for combat situations. Here’s a breakdown of the main types of mounts:

4.1 Speed Mounts

These mounts prioritize high-speed travel, perfect for those who want to cover large distances quickly. They are especially useful for traveling across the open world and engaging in PvP activities.

Horse: The classic speed mount, offering a balanced speed boost and moderate stamina regeneration. The horse is ideal for solo exploration and travel.

Wind Runner: This mount specializes in speed, providing faster travel than most other mounts but may sacrifice some combat abilities.

Direwolf: This mount is a formidable combat companion, with high health and attack damage. It’s great for players who want to fight while mounted and gain a tactical advantage.

Bear Mount: A heavy tank mount that excels in taking damage and providing crowd control in group fights. It’s slower but more resilient.

4.3 Utility Mounts

These mounts provide a balance of speed, combat, and utility. They offer a bit of everything, allowing you to take on a variety of tasks efficiently.

Mule: While slower than the others, the Mule excels at carrying large amounts of cargo, making it perfect for gathering resources, crafting, and trading.

New World PvP – the biggest issue is team imbalance

The primary issue in New World PvP revolves around team imbalance. There has been extensive discussion about the game’s current state, with arguments about Ankh disrupting the balance, the perceived overpowered nature of shirking heals, and the contentious strength of life staff healing. Ultimately, these concerns stem from team imbalances, with the most glaring issue being the disproportionate number of life staff users on each team.

This imbalance is particularly evident in two prominent PvP formats:

1, Public arenas (excluding premade 3 stacks) – When one team has a healer while the other lacks one, it almost guarantees victory for the team with the healer. Most healers possess the skills to move and evade, making it challenging for a group of random players to coordinate effectively in countering them through crowd control (CC) or focused damage.

2, Outpost Rush – Here, premade groups with healers, as well as teams with more healers, tend to dominate the game. Facing a group of players who coordinate and target solo players is already tough, but adding a pocket healer makes victory nearly impossible unless the entire opposing group is inexperienced.

So, what does this mean for New World PvP?

Solo players often find themselves grappling with problems beyond their control. While it’s unrealistic to prevent players from queuing together, there are ways to address the situation. The solution isn’t necessarily to find a healer to group with, as many players, including myself, enjoy casually jumping into PvP group activities solo.

Players lacking pocket healers require a form of self-sustain to help them stay competitive, especially if life staff healing remains as potent as it currently is. Shirking heals provided a degree of balance, but when coupled with Ankh and life staff healing, it became excessively powerful.

Ankh has, in fact, caused more harm than good in PvP, even with its previous nerf from 50% to 25% of its healing bonus and changes to consumables and outgoing heals. Even if you remove shirking heals’ interaction with Ankh, there’s still a significant problem. Pocket healers become even more potent, while solo players find themselves in a worse situation.

In my opinion, implementing several changes could significantly improve the situation:

1, Completely remove Ankh in its current form, at least for PvP.

2, Leave shirking heals as they are but cap the number of armor pieces at 4. This change, combined with the removal of Ankh, would restore a better balance.

3, Introduce a system that prevents life staff healing and shirking heals from synergizing to the point where players become nearly unkillable. Removing Ankh will help, but a mechanism for more balanced healing in PvP would mitigate the issue of teams stacking players in an uninteractive, low-FPS spam fest.

I believe that New World’s current PvP balance and build diversity are quite commendable. While some aspects are strong or annoying, the overall balance is the best it has ever been, with every weapon being legitimately viable. I hope AGS considers removing Ankh and addressing issues like Stopwatch stunlock in PvP. However, I urge them not to overcorrect shirking heals while leaving life staff healing untouched, as it may disproportionately affect solo PvP players and contribute to a declining player base. Thank you for your consideration. By the way, Many players buy New World Gold coins from MMOexp.com to get stronger quickly and gain an advantage in PVP.
